| Hula is the heart and soul of the Hawaiian people. Through Hula and its chants the folk tales and myths of the Hawaiian people are passed down from generation to generation. The Hula Halau serves as an education center where the youth can learn the arts and crafts, language, ethnobotany, history, and traditions of the Hawaiian people. The Hula Halau also serves as a finishing school where they learn the grace and beauty of Hawaii. The Merry Monarch Festival in Hilo, Hawaii is the preeminent celebration of the art and beauty of the Hula dance in Hawaii. Hula groups from around the world come to participate. If you are ever on the Big Island be sure to try and see the Hula dance performed at the Volcanoes National Part to get an idea of the love and respect the Hawaiians have for the land and the forces of nature that formed the volcanic islands of Hawaii. To see the Hula performed is to enter into the Aloha of Hawaii. | |||||||
